After our successful tour of Germany in 2016, we have organized a trip in September 2018 to take in the riches of Italy's Christian art and history and its many other wonders. Highlights include: Accommodations in Rome within walking distance of the Coliseum, Roman Forum, and Pantheon; preferred entrance to St. Peter’s Basilica plus a private guided tour of the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel; a visit to the catacombs along the Via Appia Antica; a morning devoted to Luther’s formative visit to Rome in 1510; a visit to Assisi and the basilica of St. Francis; extensive tour of Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, with opportunities to see many of the art treasures of that era; several other cities including, Pisa, Vinci, Sienna, Orvieto, Chianciano, Montecatini, and Ravenna, where we will see the unique collection of early Christian mosaics in the church of San Vitale. And, of course, this tour will include several “fun” items as well, such as an Italian folk show with opera and famous Italian songs, a cooking class, general historical sightseeing, 3 nights in Venice, and a wine tasting and meal at a Chianti vineyard in Tuscany.
